![]() The Past
In 2002 I brought in my first Houbens, a cock bird from CBS Houbens "Verona" & "Spreckles" a multiple diploma winner. The hen "Miss Kitty" was down from the Young Artist line of GFL stock and a multiple diploma winner. I bred this family for three years adding an occasional Houben from different sources including an outstanding hen bred by Steve Misler we called "Hawaiian", but our results in the one loft races were dismal at best so I sold the entire family and went back to the old dependable Meuleman birds.
![]() In 2009 I started looking for another performance based family of birds to add to my small group of Meulemans. The Leen Boers have always been of interest to me because in the eighties I flew the Boers from CBS with great success winning club, combine and money races but, the old Boers bloodline is getting harder to find and those that were available had no performance up close in the pedigree. Basically you would be breeding from birds that were just bred for stock for several generations and that doesn't fit this lofts requirements.
After considerable research I found the one family of birds that continually show up in the winners circle . . . . . the Houbens, particularly the David Clausing family of Houbens.

![]() The Present
I made the decision to bring in the Houbens again, but from the Causing's family. The first thing I found out is direct children from Causing's proven breeders are not cheap birds and I do not have extremely deep pockets. I had to search hard and practice patience when trying to acquire birds that were affordable and still have the requirements of a breeder for this loft. I found a quality pair of breeders from Paul Hopely's Speed Factory Loft at a very reasonable price. Speed Factory loft has had great success in the money races with their Houben hit pair " Captain Atom" and "Ms. Marvel". Top performers in the Buckeye Challenge 2008 and again 2009, also in the All Grizzle One Loft Race 2009 along with club and combine wins. The Speed Factory bred pair will be part of my foundation Houbens. Blue check hen AU 09 I 2799 and the Hopely Cock AU 09 I 2598.These are extremely high quality birds and I am very pleased with them. You can view the Speed Factory's website and race results by clicking HERE.
I added the "The Ross" cock from Flyhome loft who is another outstanding Houben with a proven race record and best of all he is a proven breeder of winners, which include his most recent winner as of April 2010 AU 08-8102, 1st Club vs 342 birds @ 179 miles.
